Street Art and Advertisings

Here's the link of an article on how street art has been appropriated by companies to advertise in public space. Whether street art is appropriated to the market or not, creative teams of companies understood that street art was another way to advertise into the public space. The aim of those advertisements is definitely commercial but the article points out the fact that it can be a good thing for emerging artists. The problem of this, according to the author, is that companies "set up making a profit tries to control cultural space by accessing the non-profit and creation driven space of the street art culture". In other words, advertising without advertising. The article also emphasises the role of artists in public spaces and their collaboration with companies. The author concludes by saying that it is not easy to see if it is a good or bad thing that artists work and express their creativity for companies as it can be both.

After reading this, I wonder if any kind of streets arts or creative work on the streets will always be appropriate by the world of advertisements? And are the streets one of the best place to advertise as we use them in our everyday life? It is clear that street advertisements shape our daily life and occupy a large space on our streets. However, It cannot be denied that sometimes street advertisements can awake our curiosity by the creativity of artists and companies.

I also include the link of a video on youtube where we can see different types of "creative" street advertisements.
